GOALS:

  • Cost effective to build
  • Efficient to operate
  • Reliable (let me focus on beer not equipment or computers)
  • Perfect mash temp control
  • 2.0 Deg F per minute mash heating rate
  • Fast boil and Fast boil cooling
  • Maximize SS
  • Minimize Plastics
  • Minimize fixed plumbing
  • Make stand and all parts shippable via fedex (no version 4.0 planned due to another move!)
  • Heat exchanger will not have wort in contact with heater element
  • Easy to convert between 240 and 120

PROGRESS LOG:

10/20/08 - Went to scrap yard and purchased 3 kegs and 2 soda kegs.  All in good shape.  Also found one tall stainless 1/3 keg that will make heat exchanger.  Total cost: $80

10/25/08 - Ordered all SS pipe couplings from Fastenal.  See costs below as this was a complex order.

10/30/08 - Opened and cleaned all kegs.  Ready for welder.

11/15/08 - Kegs to welder

11/23/08 - Kegs back from welder (minus one)
